Usually, I have each weekend booked up with seniors, but this year, I have spent the weekends with family. Instead, I have picked up more commercial office work.

Here is one from a local skin care clinic. I finally closed my photo studio, not for lack of business as much as because most of my recent work was outside of the studio.

I used to use the studio as a crutch – a place where I could control most aspects of every shot. I have learned to use the external environment more in recent shoots and have taken to using client's spaces to dictate color within my most recent stuff.

What makes it interesting for me is working within a less controlled environment, using available and motivated lighting.

After several shoots on location, I find that people are far more at ease in an environment in which they are comfy. Keeping that in mind, I may pick up some additional environmental portraiture work in the future.

Until then, I have two photo projects in the works. After putting together a portfolio of my fashion work, I saw some additional opportunities that I wish to explore. I have never shot for a portfolio of work on a given project, but after listening to lenswork, I decided to give it a shot.

Details aren't 100%, but I think an 8.5 x 11 series would be easiest from a production perspective and would allow me to focus on the photos. Maybe I will get it printed by Asuka or get another lost-luggage port.

One of my photos will be on a poster for a big state bridge project on the Astoria Megler Bridge. That usually would not such a big deal (next month I will post some photos from an editorial shoot I did, and I have shot for a bunch of businesses over the last couple of years), but my daughter recognized the shot and thought it was the greatest thing - and so did I. Just to see my shot so huge was pretty cool.

Anyway, it was for a local small business, something I have done more of this year. I have shot less portraiture and done more with other businesses. It made me think that perhaps I can figure out a way to do a promotion that changes periodically. Something of the season - a discounted rate for things I want to do (environmental portraiture) or work on (maybe something new or for a good cause). I have done the high volume jobs before, and I much prefer taking more time with each person - the pictures tend to reflect how comfortable someone is, and it takes most people a few minutes to relax and let themselves through a little.

Check back soon for at a least a couple of new(ish) shots.

I have been tooling with my Lightroom library the last two weeks in order to better manage the 50,000 photos. I have deleted a bunch and have come across some landscape work that might make an interesting series of prints upon which to build. I have to finish my portfolio update first, which will take the next couple of nights.

If you are interested in my work take a look at adamphotographic.com.

adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-7278439754117464682008-12-05T22:26:00.001-08:002008-12-11T18:42:37.429-08:00Fashion and Beauty Photography in SalemThank goodness for back ups! My redundant array just saved a whole bunch of work, so here is a belated photo of a local model, Lauren.

This year was good for fashion, with a spring shoot for Bend Living and a whole bunch of commercial shoots in between. I have not done much personal work, which is something that I need to do more.

Check my site www.adamphotographic.com to hire me for portraits, beauty or fashion photography in Oregon.

adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-58274479764398039902008-11-09T15:13:00.000-08:002008-11-09T15:19:15.706-08:00Oregon nature photographyI have added a black and white infrared picture to my portfolio at www.adamphotographic.com. I am not that thrilled with the conversion. It creates a vignette that is fixable in lightroom, but at the cost of a slightly compressed tonal range. For my first IR experience, using it was interesting.

I am scheduling a few TFP shoots for this weekend coming up. I need to get creative juices flowing after a tight senior year with folks waiting until the very end to schedule a shoot. Maybe it is the economy.

I hope this post finds you well and find promise in our recent, historical election. I am trying to do more charitable work in my very limited time. I am exploring the opportunity to shoot for a charity that helps reduce domestic violence. I will have more info in a week or so.adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-9121568072303103252008-10-17T20:09:00.000-07:002008-11-09T15:19:41.503-08:00Senior photosIt has been way too long since I have posted. I have 2 terabyte drives, 3 500 gig drives and 1 300 gig drive. I finally have enough for a simple 1:1 backup of everything with lots of space left for Photoshop to use as a scratch disc when editing.

This is a project that I have been putting off, but filling my 750 gig internal caused so many problems that Lightroom virtually stopped. Hopefully I will get it all square today to get out the photos I need to get done before I see So You Think You Can Dance tonight with the family.

In any case, here is how I will break down my files:

1 terabyte esata drive will hold my photos. There are about 650 gigs.
1 of the same will be backup

1 500 gig usb2 drive will hold family photos + drive image and Outlook backups
1 of the same will be backup with my music library back up as well
1 500 gig usb2 will have my higher value commercial work backed up monthly and kept off site

My 750 internal will hold my business and personal files as well as my Lightroom catalogue. Lots of space will be left for Photoshop scratch (temp) files.

1 300 gig usb2 will back up my internal 750

My 400 gig internal will have the OS.

Total = 4.95 Terabytes (Not counting my laptop, other desktop on which we use quickbooks or my passport drive that I use to ship photos to commercial clients)

I see myself outgrowing this in a year or two, so I may buy one of the network attached storage solutions - or add another 2 drives in my main machine.

Just to get away from the tech stuff, here is a photo from a recent shoot with Marissa. As soon as I am done with the file management stuff, I will edit some more and post again.

(Click to visit my flickr site for a bigger version)adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-17100236016171268712008-09-01T17:47:00.000-07:002008-09-01T17:50:34.834-07:00Salem fashion photographerMarissa is one of my favorite folks with which to shoot. Any cool dark-haired models out there want to do a vampire shot for an advertisement? Drop an email!

Adamadam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-55269697442492624372008-07-27T09:30:00.000-07:002008-07-27T09:36:51.133-07:00Salem senior photographyI have not had as many seniors this year, instead focusing on editorial and advertising photography. While the money is better with advertising stuff, there is something I miss about shooting more seniors. I will share an email I got from a senior from last year, who is now working on her BA in Art.

"This is Lauren - you did my photos last year, and I stopped by your website to see if you're up to anything new when I saw a friend's senior pictures and was reminded of mine.

It may seem totally weird I'm emailing you, but I just wanted to thank you for the encouragement in pursuing my dreams/passion for art, even though I'll probably be pounding pavement and living in a cardboard box later on, haha. I pretty much tore apart that communication arts book you gave me looking at it so much... I'm going to the UO as an art major next year, and when I dropped by your page I just thought I would thank you again for the inspiration and encouragement. Hope you're doing well in life and with your photographs."

I can't tell you how awesome that was of her to send me the email, and, during a tough week, it really lifted my spirits and reminded me why I love photography.

Adam

www.adamphotographic.com

adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-77253489268204606832008-07-15T19:45:00.000-07:002008-07-15T19:56:27.987-07:00Salem model photoJust a quick edit of one of the shots of a model. The clothing store that the model counted on being open was actually closed. So all we had was the one bikini, which was not what we planned on shooting at all. Just went for the crazy alley near my studio - light wasn't great out, and I knew this alley would be mostly in shadow.

Used the wide angle to make the walls converge and create more interest. Broke the rule of thirds and lots of other rules, but it seems to work here.

adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-80860711414715951832008-06-28T22:43:00.000-07:002008-06-28T22:47:41.639-07:00Senior photos in SalemSummer is here, and senior season is in swing. It was short, just to see how the model would do. She is very inked, tall and has a very pretty face, all things that make shooting more fun.

Here is the only shot I have edited so far-

adam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-84791049025494250232008-06-04T16:08:00.000-07:002008-06-04T16:18:50.687-07:00Astoria photographyMan, I must have hit the weather black hole for my Astoria trip this week. It was just nasty with a super flat grey sky and non-stop rain. I drove around a couple of times and just gave up the ghost. I know, I should have shot something, but I just wasn't motivated to derive some photo where I didn't feel very inspired.

I need to try something new and fresh. Maybe it is time to do some TFP model shoots again. It has been a while - maybe it is time to pass out some cards around town.

I will probably do some work for The Salem Project, though I am not sure what at this point. There is a meeting tonight that I would like to attend, but my wife went and made a hair appointment that means I am on kid duty. I will have to connect with Will Bragg later to figure out what he needs me to do.

ATadam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594053388863168567.post-91223120365814500122008-05-29T17:44:00.000-07:002008-05-29T17:47:43.427-07:00Advertising photographyI am shooting a couple of sets of ads for various businesses this week. Should be fun.

I did not get to the coast to shoot some personal work like I wanted to, but hopefully soon I will get away. I love photography and need to get some personal stuff set up soon. On another note, I have found a couple of new models to work with, and, if I can get some spare time, would love to shoot some with them.

Anyone out there interested, just send me some snaps. I might be able to use you in a project. I just ask that you not be offended if you are not right for anything I have going at this moment. I keep people's photos on file and do look them up as needed.

Anyway, hope all is well,

Adamadam photographichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10137200394327953504noreply@blogger.com0
